Mary Ahls
After a career in sales, Mary returned to her first love. – art. She loves everything about art. Feeling everything – the brushes, pencils, paper; the scents of the pencils, acrylics, watercolors, etc . all bring her back to her happy roots and keep her passion alive. She enjoys bringing a unique view to the various subjects that speak to her. Mary is especially inspired by nature and one can often find desert plants, animals, water and its inhabitants as well other Southwest themes depicted in many of her paintings.
The feel of the paper, the smell of the medium, the colors and having something beautiful when you’re done – that’s what has excited Mary Ahls all her life. Watching and learning from her mother who was a gifted artist herself is how Mary got started on her artistic path long before kindergarden. This passion lead to her taking art classes and majoring in art where she was able to explore all the art mediums.
Mary particularly enjoys using cheerful, bright colors often in softer shades as she wishes to convey joy and peace. One can also find other colors and shades depending on what she is trying to convey but always the colors complement the subject perfectly, yet still invoke a happy and calm feeling.
Look for Mary’s artwork at Gourmet Girls and the Leaping Lizard Art Gallery in Tucson. At the Leaping Lizard there are acrylic paintings on canvas adorning the walls. Below these paintings are many small, framed art pieces, known as windowsill art, in watercolor or colored pencil. These signed original art pieces are nominally priced and make great gifts, They can be grouped together to make a great statement on a wall as well.
