Anita Moyer

Anita Moyer has always had a creative streak, making all kinds of objects as in ceramics and cross stitch but really found her niche after retiring from the Army and moving to Tucson whereupon she discovered fused glass.  Her introduction to fused glass came during shopping trips first at Desert Artisans where she purchased some dichroic glass earrings and then more jewelry from the 4th Avenue Street Fair.  Needless to say she was hooked so decided to take classes at Expressions Art Glass.  Ever since she has been working with glass and expanding her creativity and skills, selling her work at craft shows and galleries on the west side of Tucson and in Tubac

A challenge is what Anita really enjoys and which has been instrumental in her skill development.  She has found inspiration all around her, in the desert, a photo, an object, or other art work, and then challenges herself to depict something similar in fused glass.  Copying is not her aim but rather lending her own creativity to what she sees and creates.  Anita loves  creating modern artwork as well as nature inspired pieces; and there is no doubt that the Arizona desert provides the greatest source of inspiration for her pieces. In all her creations bright colors is one unifying element.  Through her use of these bright colors, she aims to bring joy and happiness to others.

Finding that fused glass and frit really lend themselves to creating color and dimension, Anita  especially enjoys using frit which is ground glass like colored sugar, similar in texture to what is used on sugar cookies, or not so fine like ground coffee.  Mixing frit with colored glass allows her to create exciting 3 dimensional results.  These results can be seen in her suncatchers at the Leaping Lizard.  In one example, she used a customer's picture to create a suncatcher featuring a girl kicking a soccer ball down a soccer field with the Catalina mountains in the background and grass in the foreground.

Anita's glass creations run the gamut from  suncatchers to jewelry, to plates and bowls.  Currently the Cactus Wren Art Gallery in Tubac offers her jewelry and sun catchers.  We at the Leaping Lizard Art Gallery are also lucky to be able to carry some of her gorgeous sun catchers.  Be sure to stop by and check them out hanging in and brightening the window!
